Fast on Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement)

 “On the tenth day of the seventh month is the Day of Atonement there shall be to you affliction of your souls” Vayikra 23: 27

 

It is required to fast from evening to the next evening and add on from the non- holy weekdays to the holy period. (begin a bit earlier and end later)

 

One who increases his meals the day preceding Yom Kippur is considered as if he fasts on both the ninth and tenth.

 

This applies in all places and all times for men and women
