“The seventh day will be for resting.” Shmos 23: 12
This positive Mitzvah requires us and also our domestic animals to rest from work.
To ask a gentile to do work is forbidden by the words of the Scribes and is called Shavoos / (Cessation)
This applies in all places at all times for men and women.
